This assignment provides the opportunity for the student to continue development of a MSN EBP scholarly project that started with the identification of a nursing issue and PICOT/PICo question. The focus of this assignment is to discuss the research literature support, identify an appropriate research design approach and sampling method.
Students are to attach this completed assignment to their previous assignment from Week 2 by removing the conclusion from the first assignment and add the new information to the same document; using the headings indicated below. Students are to have revised the previous assignment from Week 2 based on faculty feedback for this presentation.
Course Outcome:
This assignment enables the student to meet the following course outcome:
CO #4 Develop knowledge related to research and evidence-based practice as a basis for designing and critiquing research studies (PO 1, 2, 6, 9)
Due Date Sunday 11:59 PM MT at the end of Week Four
Total Points Possible: 145 points
Requirements
Description of the Assignment: This continues the development of a MSN EBP scholarly project by requiring the student to identify the additional elements of the process. The required elements are noted to be:
- Assignment Revision: Refinement of Nursing Issue Into Research (Week Two Assignment)
- Research Literature Support
- Research Approach/design
- Sampling
Criteria for Content
1. Assignment Revision: The student is to include at the beginning of this assignment the revisions made within the assignment for Week Two. Remove the conclusion from Week Two’s assignment but save it for future use.
2. Research Literature Support: Using the references cited in the Research Critique Table from Week Three Assignment, students discuss the applicable elements of each research study article that directly supports the PICOT/PICo question. An additional ten (10) references must be included for this section in order to provide a useful review of the literature related to the identified PICOT/PICo question or proposed solution. This section of the proposal is to be presented as Research Literature Support.
3. Research Approach/Design: In this section, the student will identify the research approach and design to be used in order to obtain the data for answering the PICOT/PICo question. For this assignment, the research approach is identified to be either quantitative or qualitative. The research design is the sub-categories of each research approach. For example, the quantitative approach has the design categories of experimental, quasi-experimental, and nonexperimental. The qualitative approach has the design categories of phenomenology, grounded theory, epidemiological, and historical. Required content includes:
- Identification of the research approach as quantitative or qualitative or mixed methods
- Identification of research design (i.e. quasi-experimental, phenomenology, etc.)
- Description of the selected design (i.e. quasi-experimental, phenomenology, etc.)
- Rationale for the selected design (i.e. quasi-experimental, phenomenology, etc.)
- Identifies one advantage of the selected design (i.e. quasi-experimental, phenomenology, etc.)
- Identifies one disadvantage of the selected design (i.e. quasi-experimental, phenomenology, etc.)
4. Sampling method: In this section, the student will identify the sampling method to be used in order to obtain the necessary participants. Discussion of participants’ rights is also included. Required content includes:
- Describe the target population
- Identify if the project is to use probability or nonprobability sampling
- Provide a description of the sampling procedure including sample size
- Identify two advantages to the selected sampling procedure
- Identify one disadvantage to the selected sampling procedure
- Explain how participant’s rights will be protected (i.e. confidentiality, anonymity, protection from harm)
