Imagine you are a global expansion coordinator for a US-based company. You have been assigned to explore the possibility of expanding your company into a foreign country. Your assignment is to develop a strategic report for top management, discussing the possibility of expanding into the chosen country.

Step 1:

Choose a US-based company (or franchise) that you believe is a good candidate for foreign expansion

Choose a company/franchise you are familiar with (IBM, McDonalds, etc)

Make sure you can find enough information about the company through annual reports, search engines, etc. in order to complete a VRIO analysis

Step 2:

Choose a foreign country as a potential market. Make sure you can find enough information so that you can conduct an analysis of the country’s formal and informal institutions.

You can use the globalEDGE indices website (https://globaledge.msu.edu/global-insights/by/country ) to help you to choose a country. You might want to cite some of these indices in your paper.
