Current Development in the US Healthcare

The US healthcare reform conducted under the Presidency of Barak Obama and basically introduced with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) raised quite controversial responses in the US public from the severe criticism to the admiration. However, as the time has passed, true effects of the ACA are obvious and they refer to the main goal of the ACA and the main issue that is still relevant to all Americans which is high costs of health care services. High costs of healthcare for Americans are still the major issue, although the ACA intended to make healthcare more affordable to all Americans and restrain the steep growth of health care costs that have become particularly high since 2000.Current Development in the US Healthcare

Cathy Schoen in her article The Affordable Care Act and the U.S. Economy: A Five-Year Perspective (2016) conducts the economic analysis of the impact of the ACA on the US economy since the time of the implementation of the act. The author of the article reveals the fact that the criticism of the ACA was partially right but the overall effect of the ACA on the US healthcare and economy was still rather positive than negative. The researcher conducted the in-depth study of economic effects and identified positive trends in the creation of new jobs after the introduction of the ACA. However, the author concludes that the major positive effect of the ACA on the US economy is the slowdown of the growth of health care costs. The slowdown of the growth of health care costs because growing health care costs became the major challenge for the US economy. Americans had to spent more on health care than they could afford and the slowdown of the growth of health care costs helped Americans to make health care services really affordable to them just as the ACA intended healthcare to be.Current Development in the US Healthcare

On the other hand, the research The Affordability of Employer Sponsored Care and the ACA Exchange Health Care Plans conducted by T.D. Troy and D.M. Wilson (2015) has revealed the fact that, in spite of the introduction of the ACA, health care services are still not affordable for a large number of Americans and they need the support of employers and the government. The authors reveal the fact that a large part of Americans still depend on the government support and need the assistance of employers or the government to cover their health care costs. In such a situation, effects of the ACA is still under a question since the health care services have become affordable but still the act has failed to resolve the main problem, the lack of affordability of health care services because of too high health care costs which they cannot afford without the assistance of employers or the government.  The researchers revealed the fact that the sponsored care plays an important part in the contemporary healthcare of the US. The development of affordable care opened wider opportunities for Americans to receive health care services but still the ACA has failed to close all the gaps. This is why the authors conclude that the ACA has failed to reach its main goal to make health care services affordable. In this regard, the delivery of health care costs still remain too high for many Americans and affect consistently their position and their level of income which is insufficient to cover their health care costs.Current Development in the US Healthcare

At the same time, the study PATIENTS’ PERSPECTIVES ON HEALTH CARE IN THE UNITED STATES (2015) has revealed the fact that from the patient’s perspective. The study reveals the positive attitude of patients and their satisfaction with the individual health care. On the other hand, the study reveals the dissatisfaction of patients with the state health care system and the national health care system at large. In other words, the study reveals a noteworthy fact, where the development of the health care at the individual level is perceived positively, whereas the development of the healthcare system at the state or federal level is basically negative. In this regard, costs of health care services are still the main issue that evokes the negative perception of healthcare by the public. Even though the ACA has made health care services more affordable at the individual level for many Americans, the overall costs of health care services are still too high and the healthcare system of the US at the state and federal level consumes too much funds that actually evokes negative responses in the public and raises the problem of the patient dissatisfaction, although they are basically satisfied with the quality of health care services they receive in person.

Thus, the problem of high costs of health care services is still the main issue that affects the affordability of health care services for Americans. Recent studies reveal that the impact of the ACA on the healthcare and costs of health care services is quite controversial. On the one hand, the ACA has slowed down the growth of healthcare costs, while, on the other hand, health care services are still not affordable for many Americans. Moreover, even though many Americans are satisfied with the quality of their health care services, they are dissatisfied with the healthcare system at the state and federal level.Current Development in the US Healthcare
