Affordable Care Act Impact on Long Term Care
The major advantage of the introduction of the ACA for the health care organization in a long-term perspective is the expansion of the government support and the focus on the inclusion of all Americans into the delivery of health care services. The ACA intends to provide health care services for those Americans, who cannot afford them (Miller 112). Therefore, the health care organization can count on the growth of the number of patients due to the increase of the patient population which can afford health care services.Affordable Care Act Impact on Long Term Care
However, the major drawback of the ACA is the ambiguity of the reform in terms of the delivery of health care services to all Americans. Changes introduced by the ACA can provide only partial support, while the divide of investments into health care between the federal and local government create a long-term problem, when the federal government attempts to relay the burden of health care costs on the state government, while the latter resists (Bartles et al 310).Affordable Care Act Impact on Long Term Care

One of challenging issues is the possible rise of geriatric population with mental health problems to the extent that the patient population may double by 2030 (Miller & Nadash 202). In light of the ACA, the question that begs is whether the government will be able and will cover health care costs of those patients under Medicaid or not (Mueser, et al. 565). If the government does not include mental health problems of elderly people into Medicaid program, the large patient population may be left behind, while the health care organization may face the problem of the lack of funding of the treatment of geriatric patients with mental health problems, which comprise a large part of the total patient population of the health care organization at the moment and which is likely to increase in the future. In this regard, the health care organization has to lobby the inclusion of elderly patients with mental health problems into Medicaid program to ensure that the government provides the coverage of insurance for the target population.Affordable Care Act Impact on Long Term Care
